When faced with the beauty of architecture, there could be many factors behind it. One, in particular, has to do with our associations with nature, when we see traditional, straight-lined buildings, we fail to connect with them on an emotional level, however, buildings that employ curved designs tend to evoke feelings of connection with nature, which in turn makes the viewer feel more comfortable. It is this connection with the natural world that makes certain structures stand out above all others and is why some buildings leave a lasting impression on our minds.

One great example of how this curved structure design can stand out is the Absolute Towers, located in Ontario, Canada. This pair of spiraling twin towers stands out among the buildings around it for their unique, spiral design, and has become a tourist attraction for the region. The towers are a part of a larger community project, but they have become the centerpiece, drawing commerce and residents from all over Canada.

One of the most famous examples of curved architecture is the Guggenheim, located in New York. This cultural milestone was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, and currently holds some of the finest examples of art that have ever been created. The building itself is considered a work of art, and has been admired by architects the world over.
Cloud Gate

Curved architecture doesn’t have to be limited to apartment complexes or commerce. The Cloud Gate in Chicago, for example, serves as a stand-alone piece of metallic artwork set to inspire and attract crowds. Its curved structure has made many people liken it to a metal bean, and its pleasing and unique design has led to people in the area to place a greater value on their surroundings. Currently, it sits outside in the middle of Millennium Park in the Loop District, and has been the focal point of numerous festivals.
This list could go on and on, showing examples of curved architecture. From the beauty of the floating Sydney Opera House to the magnificent stylings of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in California, examples of curved architecture can be found the world over. Despite their purpose, whether they are meant to house businesses, homes, artwork, music, or just to make us smile, these beautiful structures work to evoke feelings in us that last long after we’ve seen them, and that’s why they stand out as points of beauty in a manmade world.
