All of Bris Aluminium’s superior internal partition systems have been independently assessed in relation to the Australian Standard for earthquake actions, and the report can be downloaded from our website here.
Below we explore the hazard factors for the south-east corner and provide suggestions for which Bris Aluminium framing solutions are best for regions such as Brisbane, Toowoomba, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast.
What is the Australian Standard for Structural Design for Earthquake Actions?
Buildings in Australia must be designed and built to comply with the AS 1170.4-2007: Structural Design Actions Part 4: Earthquake actions in Australia – unless they’re outside the scope of the standard.
According to this code, a range of non-structural components of a building must also be compliant and resistant to earthquake forces. Those components are listed under clause 8.1.4 of AS 1170.4 and include:
- Partitions
- Ceilings
- Connections for wall attachments and exterior non-loadbearing walls
- Floors
- Appendages, including verandas, chimneys, awnings and canopies.
As always, we recommend that you seek the advice of your designer, engineer and builder regarding the specific building code requirements for your project.

One of the additional measures we have taken at Bris Aluminium is to have our partition systems independently tested. The means you can be confident that you can make an informed choice about which system will comply with building code standards for your region.
All of our framing systems are adequate for buildings with an Importance Level 3 and a maximum hazard factor of 0.05.
This means homes and offices in Brisbane and the Gold Coast can utilise any of Bris Aluminium’s high-quality ISO-9001 certified systems.
Noosa and Toowoomba have a slightly higher hazard factor. For compliance purposes, these regions can use all framing systems, with the exception of the Supreme 64 Slimline system. All other Bris Aluminium framing solutions were found to be adequate for importance level 4 and a maximum hazard factor of 0.08.
